Trade Policy & Market Access
The program’s trade policy and market access strategies support the creation and expansion of business by removing legal, regulatory and institutional restraints on Iraq’s private sector.
Implementation activities currently underway include:
WTO Inter-Ministerial Commission
Establishment of a ministerial-level central trade body with sufficient authority
and resources to coordinate the country’s trade policies, including
the World Trade Organization (WTO) accession process.
Ministry of Trade WTO
Unit
Establishment and skills training of a Ministry of Trade working
unit to implement decisions and policies of the WTO Inter-Ministerial Commission.
WTO Accession
Assistance with drafting documents for submission to the WTO, training and capacity building within the Ministries, as well as undertaking needs assessments and impact studies to facilitate
Iraq's accession to the World Trade Organization.
WTO-related Legal Reform
Development of draft laws and regulations to help bring the Government of
Iraq’s trade regime into conformity with WTO rules.
WTO Public Awareness
Campaign
Development and support for the implementation of communications designed
to increase public awareness on WTO and trade-related issues.
